1997 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 Laramie SLT 4WD Extended Cab LB Review
ProsDiesel 5 speed with over 440,000 miles, i use it to pickup and deliver cars all over the west, 300,000 of the miles are with a trailer. This is the best Cummins motor work horse i have ever known, and i have been a car addict/ dealer for over 30 years... ConsI do not think Damiler Crysler (Dodge) knew how long lasting a truck they were making, and the body parts are wearing out, door hindges, bed welds etc...

This Truck Is My Faforite Car Of All, I Have Over 25, Some Exotic, This Is My Friend... — I modified the exhaust, 409 stainless anza to get more power but more important better cooling off the turbo, so i can pull a hill under boost(25+ lbs) and not melt the turbo. Near 435,000 miles i pulled my enclosed trailer to bainbridge Is(Seattle) to help a friend move her business, when I got on the scales just befor the grapevine, my total gross was 25,405 lbs (oops) my truck weighs in at 6720 my trailer 3500 at the most. That means 15,185 in cargo in a 3/4 ton truck and 6500 limited trailer. If You were to max load the truck and trailer then just to see if you could throw another 3/4 ton dodge diesel loaded to the max and put it on top, drive it 1100 miles up and down hills, and 35mph up the Grapevine. That is a much as a Semi would pull... Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

ProsPowerful ConsAlways something wrong(dodge)

Pretty Beastly — Its good for a dodge. I enjoy driving it and riding in it. Breaks arent that great and there is play in the stearing but its a pretty good truck and took a beating last winter when we got 5 feet of snow in january alone. Primary Use: Family transportation

1997 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9gas — Overall I am satisfied with this truck. I do think the trans could be beefed up a bit and the front end is a little loose but other then that I have no complaints. I have owned Ford F250 and a F150 I like the dodge better. Of course I do wish it had a cummins in it. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Great Reliable Truck — This truck has lots of cargo space, and plenty of power to haul. Power EVERYTHING. low maintenance cost. back seat, and not the best on gas. You can feel every little bump on the road. Plenty of power. Great reliable truck as long as you keep up with it. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

ProsPOWER!!!!!!!!!!! ConsHard to sell because everyone is afraid of a V10

Its A Great Alternative To A Diesel, Not Quite The Mileage Or Power, For Far Less Initial Cost. — Performance- The V10 is an incredible engine, It has the torque of a diesel, without waiting for a turbo to spool, or plugging it in in the winter. Starts awesome in the cold and has a very distinct exhaust note. It pulls hard and never disappoints. Build Quality- The interior is a little bit cheap on the pre-1998 trucks and the headliners always sag, expect the drivers seat to be ripped because 90% of them are. Appearance- This truck looks tough, its the original "big rig" looking truck Cost of Ownership- It takes a lot of oil for the oil change (I think it was like 7 quarts), but thats still less than most Diesels take. The mileage isn't as bad as people like to think. I got 13 Mpg no matter what, when I was loaded I got 13, when I was empty I got 13..... thats just the way it is. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

ProsIf you like something powerful that can go through anything, drive this truck. ConsDiesel is kinda pricey, and it can sometimes be a pain in the winter.

If You Can Get Past The Rough Edges Of A Primative Pickup Truck, You Will Love This Beautious Beast. — It performs well for a 6000 pound pickup truck, and will be even faster when I am finished with it. It has one of the most reliable diesel engines on the market. For being 12 years old, it looks pretty damn good. Cost of ownership? Well, that just depends on how you drive it ;)

I Would Love To Keep Mine Going But With 215,000 Miles, I Need To Replace It At Some Point In Time. — I just love my '97 Cummins 2500! I have owned it for 8 years now and it has over 215,000 miles on it now. I am not looking forward to the day I have to trade it off, but as single mom I need something that is going to keep going! SO I am starting to fix this one up for a good work PU and looking for a new 2500. No sense in changing mid stream right? If it aint broke dont fix it. But I do have to say this, "WHAT IS WITH THE NEW BODY STYLE???" "YUCK!" Owner for 8 years, 7 months Miles Driven per Year:17,241 |
