I Had 4 C/k's Now And I Jus Havta Have My Truck.. — with the c/k body style fuel injection was primative til the vortecs in 96 and a weak 700r4 for the transmission. the IFS is smooth but expensive to work on as im finding out after a accedent in oct 09.. the trucks are fun to cusomize and the ext cab platform is a prime choice for lifting or lowering and still get a sound system in the back seat like i did with 2 12" subs and a kenwood amp

1997 Chevy 1500 — Super awesome truck. Lotsa power, will burn the tires easily. Super smooth ride, even at 95 mph. Built like an ironclad, survives alot of abuse. Easy to maintain, little work ever needed. Ok on gas. Overall its a pretty bad ass truck.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

I Will Never Ever Get Rid Of This Thing........ever — rebuilt 4.3L, cold air, lunati cam, belltech suspension, hypertech systems Hyperpac, victory red paint, black rhino liner, stock wheels on BF Goodrich 265-70R15, automatic transmission w/ shift kit, APC racing buckets and simpson harness (that i never use). Over all this truck is just my first car and it took me 7 years to get it where it is now and honestly didn't cost me all that much money.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Great All Aorund Truck, One Could Never Go Wrong Getting One. — Best all around pickup made by any auto maker. Reliable (180K miles), tough, engine has plenty of torque, and everything about it is perfect for being off the pavement. It has low end torque, high end horsepower, the toughest IFS ever placed in a pickup, and key design features that make it great off road. And, unlike any new trucks, it has their same capacity in a smaller package so I can work in places they could never go.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

1997 Silverado Ext. Cab 4wd — This is a great truck. It is very reliable, only broke down on me once. It's not exactly fast, but it's a work truck, and a great one at that. It is great for towing and hauling heavy things, like boilers and a/c equipment. The gas mileage isn't that great at around 14 mpg, but it's not that bad either. There aren't any problems with it as far as build quality goes, and it really keeps its resale value. My father purchased it in '04 for about $10k and it still has a blue book value of about $6500-7000. A great truck and would recommend it to anyone.

Pros

Having a 3/4 ton with 6 lug axle shafts makes this truck special. I got a 3/4 ton with a Z-71 off road package

Cons

Automatic transmission

Unlike Any Other — This chevy has never let me down. always ready to play or work hauling hay, or equipment. I couldn't ask for a better truck unless this one had a manual transmission.

Cons

I can't think of any. I love this truck as much now as when I first bought her 6 years ago.

Great Truck — My 97 Silverado has been a great truck in the 6 years I've owned her all I have had to replace is an alternator, water pump, intake gasket (very common problem with these trucks) and 2 batteries. It does have a slow freon leak that I can't seem to find but the AC still blows cold when full. I replaced the engine and transmission but because I wanted a V8 and Automatic, not because there was anything wrong with the 135,000 mile 4.3 V6 and 5 speed trans. They are both still running strong in another truck.

Although it seats three, if someone sits in the middle they sometimes get in the way of shifting and bump the shifter.

If You Need A Pickup, Buy A Chevy. — This truck has great power and is good for hauling. I sometimes haul project cars and have taken friends race cars to the track in the past and this is the perfect truck for me. It accelerates quickly, handles great, and stops pretty quick too. The only thing I would complain about is that the rocker panels and cab corners tend to rust out on these trucks. The gas mileage is alright for a truck, about 16 mpg. It is a lot of fun to drive and I would highly recommend this truck to anyone looking for a good reliable pickup.

Dependable Truck — This is a great vehicle. I have owned it for for over 10 years and it has performed flawlessly. Towing boats, hauling material, or going on a trip. It is always reliable and ready to go. It is the kind of truck that you can depend on for doing whatever job needs to be done.
