ProsIt's a BMW! Best car ever. Ultra reliable and fast if you want it. ConsIf you can't afford the petrol and insurance don't buy one.

Best Car I've Ever Had But I Can't Afford A New One, But I Will Do In The Future. — Does exactly what the brochure says. It's a driver's car. 142mph, 28mpg on long runs, only 18 around town, but you accept this with this sort of car. If you can't afford to run it don't buy it. Interior is comfortable, functional switches, ultra-reliable. Maintenance can be expensive but it never broke down in 17 years. Regular oil and anti-freeze changes essential. Alluminium head and cast iron bottom so watch the water levels. Fun? This is the best driver's car ever. Goes where you point it and never scares you. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsDrives well. Interior is nice. Has leather seats, 6 disk DVD changer, good tires, stylish rims and no accidents. ConsOverheats and has minor dings and normal wear. I would love to restore every crack, nick, noise and tear but I have more passion than know how.

1997 Bmw 528i — I really like the weight of this car and the way it handles the road. I like the classic style and elegant presence at any age this car looks good! Feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or comments. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros12 years later the car looks and drives like new. Fabulous sound system ConsVery expensive maintenance and outdated error-infested main computer. Has cooling system problems every other year.

The Best Production Car In The World In 1997 — With a Dinan computer upgraded program, this particular BMW "topped out" at 165 mph several years ago on a very desolate stretch of Minnesota freeway. Probably could have wound up another 10 mph but I was topped out. Car is extremely maneuverable, agile and absolutely great in an all-out emergency accident avoidance situation. Better than the two-seater sports car my wife drives. At a 100, the BMW feels like 75 in most cars. Primary Use: Commuting to work

My Bmw 540i — The car is amazing. after 12 years this car still drives like a freaking race car. Got it to 145mph on a freeway without a problem and still could go faster but didnt want to push it coz i have a check engine light because of my o=o2 sensor. Destroyed my friends 2008 accord v6 and almost stayed up with 08 mustang bullitt. The only problem is the maintenance. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Not The Best Starting Car, But An Amazing Ride When You Can Afford It. — I've raced it many times. Car performs like a dream. All components are stock and I still dominate most cars. The car's maintenance fees are the only downside. All the basics are free, but if anything breaks it's at least 5000 to fix. It also only gets around 16 mpg. with an 18 gallon tank it adds up quickly. Car is F.U.N. to drive right down to the true meaning of the word. You really notice the quality of a BMW when you take your first drive right down to your last. Even the 11 year old DSP sound system beats most cars.

Rear Wheel Drive, Not The Greatest Car To Drive In Wisconsin Winters. — Older "Beamer" but still drives like a sports car. Classic BMW looks. Gets good gas mileage for a sporty car. German engineering, some of the features are hard to figure out, and the Manual doesn't tell you much. Overall, though a great car. Primary Use: Family transportation

1997 Bmw 5 Series 528i — Performance: Engine nice and lazy down in the revs but lots or power at 3k revs onwards, brakes very good. Handles very tight on the lowered suspension and wider tires. Build Quality: Very good. Appearance: Very nice, lots of M-Tech extras on it. Cost of Ownership: Not bad, 30MPG and cheap insurance. Fun Factor: Good fun, a good drive. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)
