Proshigh mpg's, low cost maintenance. Consit's like a sled in snow.

Fun Car To Drive, But Worthless In The Snow. — performance is pretty good for a 4-cylinder. Bought it for $350 and it needed an engine, which I had one. Gas mileage is around 30 mpg in the city, and around 35 mpg on the highway. Overall, fun car to drive. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Prosgreat on gas. big trunk for a small car Conssmall interior, low to the ground. horrible in a crosswind at or above 30mph

Great Car For Commuting To Work Or Driving On A Trip. — I love this car... It's great on gas. It doesn't have much power in fourth or fifth gear but makes up for it in the first three. it has a performance switch on the shifter to shorten the first four gears as well. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Prosstill good mpg, good handling Consbad appearance, and a little small

Good Mpg 13 Y/o Saturn — Performance- manual, sticky first gear after a long drive. Decent acceleration. braking is fine. Build quality- has very few problems for its age. rear driver seatbelt is stuck, and rear passenger window doesn't work. sunroof does not work, either Appearance- gold paint with khaki fabric seats and black leather clutch and steering wheel. ceiling fabric in back seat was ripped a long time ago and is gradually peeling. has a spoiler Cost of Ownership- approx. 32 mpg, which is great for a 13 year old car. only real problem was emissions monitor comp was broken and had to be replaced last year Fun- not especially, but it is a manual, so if you like those, sure.

ProsEconomy, power, ride comfort, 5 speed, light weight, handling, parking, trunk capacity ConsPower sunroof, seats, rear leg room, gear ratios, speakers

Nice Economy Car. — I bought my 96 SL2 for $600, and for the cheap price its not bad. It's dead on one cylinder and I'm still getting 22 city. It burns a small amount of oil but I'm sure it's just a PCV valve. I love the 5spd manual it has, but I'm not very fond of the ratios: 30MPH in 4th at around 1900RPM. The sunroofs are known to break the guides, so occasionally the panel will need replaced, and on mine one of the drain tubes isn't working so my headliner and floor occasionally get wet. As usual with your Saturns, the back seat leg room is very small, I can't understand why they don't elongate the body slightly to allow more room. For an economy car, the performance isn't too bad: 0-60 in 8-10secs depending on how healthy the engine is - most economy cars are in the 10-18sec range. FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CRITICIZING THE PERFORMANCE: remember that it's an ECONOMY car, NOT a SPORTS car. The trunk capacity is amazing for the overall size of the car, I can fit my 2.5gal gas can, my giant tool box, my Jeep's tire (235/75R15), two 5qt. jugs of oil, the service jack, a regular jack, a pair of 2 ton jack stands, and my star wrench and still have room leftover, and that's without the rear seat being folded over. As a mechanic, I can say that under the hood room for such a modern car is pretty good - you might have to occasionally remove the passenger front tire, but at least you can work on the damn thing. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Great Car. — Great car with great mpg. Great car to get if you're looking for a day to day driver. Only paid $600 for it because the last owner thought the owner was going bad, turns out all it needed was a tune up. Totaled the car years back, still miss it. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Prospower Conswagon

Great Car — performance did not lack at all it has a very powerful 2.0 four cylinder DOHC engine, it was very sturdily built, appearance isint the greatest but that is ok, it got great gas mileage, with little to no harsh maintainence, and this car as a stick and with good handling is a blast to drive! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsAcceleration, Gas Mileage, Low cost of ownership, fun to drive Cons"Plastic car", brakes use up easily, head gasket problem with engine (oil leak)

The Saturn Sc2 Runs Like A Charm! — This car isn't my favorite, but it sure is close! The car has a small inline 4 engine but has one hell of an acceleration for such a small motor, especially when switched into performance mode (through a button next to the automatic shifter that makes the engine shift at higher RPMs even though it is automatic). I've had this car out drifting and doing donuts before and my friends cannot believe what it does for such a small economy car! The build quality isn't too great; I always joke how it is my plastic car and it's horrible in any winter weather. The exterior and interior include no frills unless you add them on, except for the raise-up headlights in the front, which always throw people for a loop (as long as you get one where they still work like me!). The gas mileage is INCREDIBLE, I can go a whole week on a tank of gas (around 200 miles) and fill up for about $12 with gas around a $1.85 average. Fun little car considering I only paid $2000 for it and it already has 118,000 on it but runs like a charm!

ProsGreat gas mileage, dependable, fun to drive and handles well ConsElectrical system problems, hard to get in and out of
35
My Saturn Was A Good Deal For The Money! — I love my Saturn SC2. It gets great gas mileage and has a sporty look. However, the electrical system leaves something to be desired. The drivers side auto door lock doesn't work. The drivers side power window will roll down but not back up. I cannot close the headlight covers - the motor continues to run if I do. One headlight will close but not open back up and has to be opened manually. The sun roof works sporadically and the windshield wipers have a mind of their own - sometimes turning themselves on and stopping halfway across the window. The headliner and door liners have peeled off. The car handles well and is fun to drive.

An Cheap Car That Gets Me Where I Need To Go, But Little Else — It is a decent cheap car that will get you where you need to go. Doesn't handle well, doesn't have lots of power, and doesn't look very good. It is a great starter car or for someone with a low budget. Primary Use: Commuting to work |
