Pros

Looks, styling, reliability, power, 4WD is near flawless, stability, cargo space. Looks amazing lifted.

Cons

Auto-transmission until it's overhauled. Having to add a tranny radiator to keep it cooler (shoulda been stock). The clutch fan sucks. I've swapped it for a more modern e-fan from a WJ Grand Cherokee. It isn't perfect but it definitely stops the constant eating of water pumps & motor drag. Rear tire takes up a lot of space in the back. I removed it & pray against flats to give myself spare room.

Longest Lasting Jeep I'll Ever Own (10+ Years & Counting) — The auto transmission. It's guaranteed to have gear slip failure between 100K-150K miles. After being overhauled, it's good to go for a LONG time though. The all-time 4WD transfer case is kinda lame. I need to swap it for a NP249 with 2WD shifting option, which would help with MPGs.

Pros

Always reliable, and great gas mileage for a V8.

Cons

The leather seats are cold as hell in the winter.

800,000 Or Bust — This is my second Grand Cherokee, bought after my first one ended up in a creek. A lot of the Limited features were new to me at the time, but now I wonder how I ever drove a GC without them. The tranny was factory rebuilt right before the 100,000-mile warranty expired, and I'm only now (at 164,xxx) starting to notice a little slippage between 1 & 2. Only one major repair so far, to the steering column/stabilizing arm; everything else has been like a rock. I recently replaced the stock air intake with a 3.5" stainless cold air intake and cone filter...that upgrade alone has increased the highway MPG from 19 to 23 (and yes, this is the 5.2L V8 we're talking about here). I do wish the rear seats folded completely flat (like my '93 Laredo's did), but it's a small point. Everything else is great, and I'm expecting it to stay that way for at least 636,000 more miles!

Pros

V8 power, simple design, Infinity Gold stock stereo.

Cons

NP249 transfer case and Dana 44 aluminum rear axles are trouble spots with all V8 Grand Cherokees from 1993-1998.  Gas mileage?  If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Great For Its Time — The 1996 Grand Cherokee is an incredibly capable all-weather vehicle. With a 5.2L V8 motor, it's plenty quick to get where you need to go and haul most of what you need behind.

Good Car Would Buy Another Jeep With The Inline 6 Engine — I dont really care for the look and how small it is for a mid size suv. But i would buy the car again they are kinda cheep and easy to work on by all means! All around good car

Pros

It's very spacious with leather interior and power everything. It drives smooth, transmission shifts seamlessly,  any maintenance costs are pretty cheap.

Cons

Its not 4x4. This Jeep came with a V6 motor, which blew a piston at just 120k, it's never been driven hard and never been off road or dogged out. When it blew the piston, I had an in-line 6 motor with roughly 60k on it put in instead of another V6. Since then, and 130k miles later, I've never had an issue with it.

Overall I Love My Jeep And Would Recommend It To Anyone. — I love everything about this Jeep, from the style to the drivability. Even at 18yrs and 250k miles overall, this Jeep is still in tip top shape, from the inside out. It stills drives smooth and has very little rust, granted it has been very well maintained, but it has never been garage kept and still not a lot of rust(only a small amount on bottom of back hatch where water tends to settle)

Pros

4 wheel drive

Cons

gas mileage and acceleration

Good But Too Small Of Engine — It is a good vehicle but when you put a 6 cylinder engine in such a heavy vehicle it just doesn't have the performance that you would like, or the gas mileage for that matter. Other than having a 6 cylinder it is an amazing vehicle.

Gas mileage and front-end design with the headlights.

The Guzzler — I enjoyed owning this car until about when Obama took office because of gas prices now, i had to sell. It was a daily driver one of my favorite features was the quadra trac 4 wheel drive mode when i went off road with it!

the fact that its all time 4x4 so its hard to have fun in the snow

1996 Jeep Gc 5.4 Liter V8 All Time 4 Wheel Drive — Performance - it has performed great right up until we had to replace the engine. But then again I still can't complain because i have no clue how well the previous owners took care of it. Build Quality - so far the only repairs are the brakes, muffler, engine, and drag link Appearance - well the outer appearance is great, but once i took off the front bumper, there was evidence of the vehicle being in an accident. Cost of Ownership - its getting about 18 mpg and we paid $2500 for it Fun Factor - this is fun to drive but my only grip is that it handles too well in the snow lol. with it being all time 4 wheel drive it makes it hard to have fun lmao

Pros

Uber-capable, easy to work on, affordable parts, rugged design

Cons

So-so gas mileage (15-20), the 6cyl is reliable but weak at highway speeds.

Unbelivable Work Horse — Unlike most owners, I have had *no* major problems with this Jeep after 160K miles. Minor expected repairs only. This thing hauls very well as I tow 5000lbs often with it. I have also had 5-10 off-road trips with it where again I was very impressed with its capability. Decent interior room, yet still small enough to fit into tight parking spaces. I've been really pleased with this vehicle.

Hit 243,000 Miles And Still Going — every jeep needs a little bit of love... but it will return the favor. i just hit 255 thousand miles. i just did an ignition tune up, changed the fuel filter, and replaced all of my steering parts. its like an all new grand cherokee. i know itll go another 50,000 miles without a problem.
