Pros

Best vehicle ever made.

Cons

They stopped making them

There's Only One. — Jeep built the perfect vehicle in the Cherokee. Able to climb mountains, ford rivers & blast through snow banks, yet cruise the highway comfortably and take exit ramps at 60 MPH without fear of tipping over. Lots of creature comforts for the money and decent gas mileage to boot. This vehicle is a real work horse too. But the most impressive thing is that after 225,000 miles, it still starts on the first try. By the way, still has the original clutch too.

Pros

Off-road ability, Power, Solid build

Cons

I don't like the buzzer when you start the car.  That's about it.

96 Jeep Cherokee Classic 2wd — Lots of power from the 4.0L HO. Brakes are pretty good. Maybe a little touchy. For a tall SUV, it handles nice. Tight turning circle for a truck. Haven't needed any major repairs yet. Doesn't have any obtrusive squeaks or rattles. Gas mileage ain't great, but it's an SUV. Stock AM/FM stereo has a surprising amount of volume and sound quality. l Love driving it.

Pros

Reliable, strong vehicle.

Cons

Floors intensely vulnerable to rust.

Cherokee: Jeeps Red-headed Stepchild. — Jeep has always made some solid off-road vehicles. Probably some of the best. The Cherokee, while it may not be the most popular, is still one of the better vehicles that Jeep made. The 4.0 HO straight six puts out excellent torque and power and can pull the Cherokee through just about anything. Build quality can be questionable when considering how vulnerable the floors are to rust. Cherokees are notorious for rotted floors and the unibody construction does not help to make this an easy fix. If you pick up a Cherokee with solid floors, however, expect to find that it's one of the most reliable vehicles made. The 4.0 engine will turn 300,000 miles if it's taken care of properly and will outlast the rest of the vehicle. Gas mileage ranges. With 30 inch MTRs and a 5 speed transmission, I manage to get about 23/24 mpg.

Pros

engine, acceleration, driving comfort, winter traction, on-demand 4wd feature (allows for
AWD on pavement.)

Cons

fuel tank design, driveline issues, mediocre brakes, small interior

Good All Around Vehicle — This vehicle was a good, solid truck. not overly roomy inside but comfortable to drive.. almost car-like. fuel mileage was ok for an SUV but if the fuel tank was low the fuel would slosh in the tank so bad that during cornering, the fuel pump would not pick up any fuel, causing engine hesitation. these vehicles are also prone to rust on the body. Only other issue i had with mine was a driveline imbalance that caused shaking at freeway speeds. you could remedy this somewhat by putting it in on-demand 4wd.

Pros

Off Road Ready

Cons

None

Great For Me — I love the power and the amount of torque that the 4.0 litre straight six puts out. The AX-15 5 speed manual transmission is a great mate, along with the NP-231 transfer case. The Dana 35 rear and Dana 30 front seem to be holding up fine to my style of harsh driving. With 30x9.5 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, this rig is capable of doing everything i need it to do, and more.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

This Car Will Last Forever And Take A Beating. Amazing First Car. — This car is amazing. The only thing, not quite fast enough. get a newer one, but not after 2001. Its style is classic and its built like a rock. Unfortunately its about as fast as one, but it gets the job done.

Cons

to low, needs a lift

96 Jeep Xj — It accelerates hard and stops even faster. It has a few rattles just due to age. It looks clean and almost new. It is averaging about 23 mpg and up to 30 on the highway. It is a blast to drive, and a great vehicle.

Cons

It likes the gas, and chrysler gouges you for parts big time!

96 Cherokee Country — 4.0 litre 6 gets up and goes! We purchased it well used, but very well looked after, other than running hot, and a couple of electrical gremlins, it is a very solid vehicle and the legendary 4X4 capabilities of Jeep shine through. It's just too shiny and scratch free to take serious off roading, (my wife would kill me)

Pros

This thing is a workhorse and a half. It's been my camper in the woods on offroading trips, it's been my work truck at times, even my band vehicle to haul my guitar amps and stuff around. I take care of her and she treats me right!

Cons

Fuel economy I suppose, but what do you expect? Same thing with handling, if I cared about handling so much I'd buy a sports car, but where's the adventure in that??

My Little Buddy. — I love everything about what this Cherokee is capable of doing. Hauling, wheeling, camping, driving over concrete medians in the city and stuff to make people turn their heads for fun lol. Not to mention what she can do in the woods. Getting me to work no matter what the weather is like... 3 feet of snow is child's play for this old gal.
