Power and Security on the Road

Cons

Gas Mileage

'96 Forn F-150 — For truck that weighs over 4,000 pounds, the acceleration is phenomenal. I have clocked myself at about 7.0 seconds from 0- 60. The other surprising thing considering its weight is how well it brakes. It has saved me from a handful of accidents because of its stopping power. Towing and load carrying abilities are excellent for its class. I have loaded that thing up, plus towed a trailer and it still accelerates on climbs. The biggest downside to this vehicle is the gas mileage with a max of 14 stock. With a new muffler to replace the old one, I have seen mileage increase a mile and a half to 2 miles per gallon. With my odometer reading at under 60,000, I'm convinced that I will be able to keep the truck that I got from my Granddad for a long time.

Great handling and speed

Cons

Tires could be a bit bigger.

Great Work Truck — I believe that the Ford F-series trucks are best in thier class. They have good brakes, they accelerate with desent speed, and the handling is awesome. The only repair my truck has ever needed was the oil change and that isn't even technically a repair. This I would have to say is the best truck I have ever owned.

Pros

This 96 was the last of the "flying brick" body style and I kinda like the retro truck look. My truck has the 4.9 ltr straight 6 with 5 speed manual. Taking a load of camping gear or a load of oak firewood it  will out climb my son -in laws newer V 8 F150. If you want torque for loads and mountain work the old in-line 6 is hard to beat. The Eddie Bauer edition has some dress up that makes it look a little nicer too. I actually get compliments on the appearance. It only has 82 k so it has hardly been broken in for a pick up. Normal repairs, new clutch, rear end work, shock upgrades, brakes, tune ups and oil changes.

Cons

Seating not as comfortable as modern trucks. This is a standard cab and I can't wear my cowboy hat inside. A cab should at least be big enough to wear your hat. Ford makes a center console that is a terrible design and however put in the automatic door lock, buzzer ignition lock out should have 100,000 years in purgatory with with their truck keys locked in the vehicle and the engine running. It's a truck, you are in and out of it all the time shouldn't have to worry about it automatically locking on you.

Mid Nineties F150 With A Straight Six Is A Great Everyday Truck. — A truck is a truck and you get it for hauling stuff, towing things and taking it to the mountains fishing and hunting. You just have to make sure that the truck you have does what you need. This truck does what I need when I need it without fuss. I love my truck. Just because it has a 6 don't expect anything other than truck gas mileage.

1996 Ford F-150 Xlt 4x4 — Here is my old 1996 Ford F-150 XLT. Truck has a 302 5.0L V8. Had enough power for whatever I needed it to do. Not a race truck, but was a super nice truck for the price. Interior was red cloth seats and red dash, door panels, ect. 4WD worked amazing in this truck , I had mud OVER the hood and it was still going strong. Never got stuck once with this truck. Haven't has as much fun with a vehicle since I had this truck.

Cons

Gas Mileage, Play in the steering.

1996 Ford F-150 — These are nice trucks don't get me wrong, but they are gas hogs. My dad's old one used to average about 16mpg. They have plenty of power, and can really take a beating. For a truck, these look good. When I think truck, I think F-150. These are fun to drive off road. You can take the 4WD versions almost anywhere you can think of. However, unless I was hauling things, I wouldn't take it on a long drive unless I had to. However, these trucks will definitely do some work. Other than gas mileage, the only other negative about this, is the steering. It's decent, but has some play to it.

If You Need A Truck To Last Forever Get This One — This truck fits my needs perfectly. Its easy to work on, and with 600lbs. Of sand she goes great in the snow. Its a stick so there is no costly tranny work in the future. I just wish it had a better radio.

Good Looking F150 — This is the last year Ford built the 4.9 inline 6. It has excellent low end torque and decent fuel mileage. I love the square styling of the older F150 and these trucks are very reliable. The front springs have sagged during it's 16 years so I will replace them with new coils and 2 inch spacers to make the truck sit level. I plan to install some aftermarket wheels with 265/70/17 tires. This is a low mileage truck with only 37,000 kms. A keeper.

Fix Or Repair Daily Sums It Up — Bad MPG for a 6 cylinder, Idled Rough, Old "I" beam suspension caused the frame to split at all the cross members & steering box (Major / Costly Repair). Ice Cold A/C, Lots of power options, Hauled & towed everything, easy to drive.
