Pros

Plenty of power, great handleing, low key look, drives like a 4 door Corvette

Cons

No manual transmission, light power steering

Good All-around Sports Sedan — The most suprising thing about the car is its balance. It has great straight-line speed, but the handling is world class for a 4000lb. car. This is despite the fact that the power steering is very light with a slower steering ratio. A manual transmission would also be welcome. Yet the car looks great, sounds great with that mellow V8 rumble and provides amazing performance.

Fun Fun Fun Fun!!!! Yeehaw — I've owned my SS for about 6 years now. I bought it with 8500 mi on it and now has 44,000. I recently did ALOT of high performance mods to my car. I researched for about 6 months before I started my mods. I like everything about this car overall and what I didn't like I just made better. The stock performance for a 4,200 lb car was great. There were some issues with the build that was questionable however there are fixes for alot of them.(ie. odometer, window tilting, water in MAF) I didn't buy this car to gripe that it can drink some fuel. I bought it to have fun! Really if you stop to think about it, after first buying my car I did 3 mods - Hypertech download, air intake, exhaust. I was getting around 23 miles on the hwy. Now for a 4,200lb high performance LT1 - Not to bad! I have alot of hands on with my car not to mention my younger brother and mother had one also. Between theirs and mine I can say I'm pretty knowledgeable with 96 Impala SS.

Like The Car; Electronics Suck! — Bought car new May 1996. Runs great, looks great. We really have enjoyed the car however, we have had considerable touble with the electronics. First the ditributor and coils then fuel level sending unit and now (last couple of years) odometer displays intermitently.

The best Impala SS ever made

Cons

You don't have to worry about gas mileage because you can buy superchips to get around that problem.

Reek's Impala — Best performance. Once you tighten up the engine, tune a few things, add a couple components (professional), then you got yourself a true champion. Maintenance is not that much unless you plan on running the car everyday. Very fun too drive.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

It's Dearth Vadars Ride. Pimpala — I've owned the car for 7 years. Low maintenance. Classic style. Smooth body lines. Love the muscle car sound. It's old need to upgrade but if I was retired and had money I would buy another low mile impala and keep her in my collection. Sad to see her go but she's getting old.

Chevrolet Did Their Homework Here Love It — Love The Car Hated That the Bean-counters of GM killed a great car. 2000 ill attempt of a comeback was a complete joke. GM kept building the Caprice for the Middle East but not here we got FWD piece of junk re-badged Lumina.

Classic Car One Must Have — GM created a classic when they discontinued this great car. last of the full size rear whell marquee. balanced suspension and engine performance. very clean burning engine. takes turns with very little sway breaking the typical "boat" handling reputation of large cars. holds value better most cars. i can find a fault for this car except wishing GM put in a big block motor.

It Is A Must Have — This is a fantastic car to drive. It has great acceleration and top speed, good handling. It's build quality is pretty good also, the only thing wrong with it is that it squeaks when you drive, nothing more. It has needed some repairs, we replaced the entire front end, and got a new transmission recently. The paint job is a Dark Cherry Metallic and interior is grey leather. It can get alright mileage at around 22 mpg highway, and around 16-18 city. This car is so much fun to drive.
