ProsWill always love the first car ConsIt took a beating

1995 Plymouth Neon Sport Coupe — This was my very first car. It was on its second motor and transmission when I got it. This car did not have a ton of top end power, but it was absolutely amazing in corners. I drove the car like I had stolen it all of the time and it took everything I gave it. Loved that car. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |

Move On — the car was a 5 speed manuel and was geared pretty good for for acceleration, car had a sporty look and was great on gas. wasn't the most reliable thing though. i had several issues with it, including having to drop in a new clutch. Primary Use: Commuting to work |

Great Little Car If You Don't Mind Rough Rides On The Road. — All stock, a little banged up but nothing serious. Drives and handles great! Very reliable for long trips, hasn't broken down, hasn't stalled and has always been fun to drive. It's nothing special right now, but I have plans for this little car. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |

ProsHandles great, quick and good stereo. Consnone on this car

Plymouth Neon 1995 — I liked this car. Believe it or not it won over a Nissan Maxima. I tried the Maxima and as far as power and handling it was about the same. Where the Maxima lost was on the stereo. Sounded like "tin can" versus the Neon had a 10" speaker in the rear and great sound. Primary Use: Family transportation |

ProsPerformance, comfort, handling ConsThe 1995 steering wheel is nasty, not nice to drive in the rain

Say Hello To Neon! — Well, I have three Neons! 1995 Sport Coupe (blue) - zippy around town, but not as quick as the others. My 1995 Sport Sedan (green) is fun to drive with it's factory Mopar Accessory roof racks! Thirdly, there's my 1996 ACR coupe (black). Driven by the DOHC 2.0L which delivers 150 hp to the wheels, this car packs some punch! ACR's were built on the base neon platform (so it's lightweight), but features the competition package (performace computer, stiffer Arvin suspension, rear sway bar, and 3.94 gear ratio tranny, no speed limiter). The ACR is a blast to drive! All three Neons are 5-spd's! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |

It's Fun Until Your Friends See You In It. . . — Ah, my first car. . . the good ole $500 Plymouth Neon. Not much can be said about its looks, or performance, or comfort, or anything for that matter. This little thing's one redeeming quality lied in the fact that it was essentially an oversized Go Kart. It may have only had about 130 horsepower, but it also only weighed a little over 2000 pounds. I had some fun driving that little piece of crap. It even held up for another 4 years after I gave it to my sister. Not a bad $500 investment. I would never suggest buying one unless you were in a situation like I was. 16 years old and being offered a car that ran well with 60,000 miles, cd player, AC, and power locks and windows, from your neighbor for $500. |

Proscomfortable enough, solid and cheap Constoo slow!!

Everything Is Solid And Good Exept The Terrible Perfomance...but It Is A Neon — The car accelerates like a slug brakes weakly but comfortably handles very stiff but with a lot of body roll, was fairly solid just regular maintenance, interior is bit small for me a little loud above 100km but quieter than the Integras Ive owned is quite good on gas for a 2 lite, the car is definitely not fun to drive for what im looking at. i would and have recommended it to a friend looking for a solid cheap car that can "haul his ass for at least a year". |

Better Than The Sum Of Its Parts — I will skip over the car in stock form, we all know what stock first generation neons are like and if you dont you dont want to. With the addition of some basic bolt on modifycations the car is completely different, the suspension( acr konis, mopar high-rate springs, 20/16 sway bars) brings the handling to near supercar numbers, 0.99g according to my g-meter that is on street tires!!! Now when we begin to un-wind the steering wheel things start to go wrong, if you are looking to impress your friends in a stright line your time would be better spent looking for at least a DOHC engined car. Had I started with a better base I have no doubt that this could be a perfectly reliable daily driver that you could still have more fun than should be allowed with at the track or the autocross every weekend. |
