Pros

reliable motor

Cons

horrible transmission, uncomfortable, poor build quality, rusts easily

Do Not Buy — PIECE OF JUNK, very ugly, fell apart, and the transmission was HORRIBLE. Barely shifted gears. Motor was strong, but everything else was horrible. The car did get decent gas mileage on the highway, i would say around 29 or 30 MPG.

The Taurus Is A Great Platform To Work With Especially The Sho!!! — the Taurus has great reliability and handling but the 3.0L Vulcan lacks in power and acceleration its is however a vary comfortable and safe ride it is a great family car but also makes a BA sleeper i hope to keep mine for awhile

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Good Shape — The performance is basic, but nice. power steering is amazing. It can hardly handle off roading, but it gets me where i need to go. gas mileage is not too bad. It's not all that expencive to maintain either. it's very roomy inside.

Beautiful green machine

Cons

It finally was laid to rest after a couple hundred thousand miles

Best Little Car Ever! — That car was the best ever! Looked like the average "mom" car, however, it had the stuff! 5-speed, all the bells and whistles! It would flat get up and move...never any issue to get up to speed(ing) on the ramps. Even though it was a sedan, my teenaged boys liked to drive it.

Not Sporty, Bad Gas Mileage

Taurus Wagon, The Unknown Gold — This car is very cheap. NOBODY wants a wagon, therefore I was able to purchase a moderately conditioned Taurus Wagon. The car only had 74,000 miles. This car guzzles gas like it is going out of style, and is fun to drive. I can peel out quite nicely for a grand, and tight turns are very interesting. This car is not sporty at all, but is still great.

Trans gasket issue and the generation that came in 96

Great Automobile — Acceleraton was good for the type of car and size of engine 3.0L V6, braking was good disk breaks all around for that year. Handled well. It was built solid, with one issue trans gaskets wear after two years. The appearance was better that the previous generation. As you can see in my pic, I didn't like it looking like others. I loved driving this joker

It's a sleeper

Cons

Maintenance

Love It — 3.0L Yamaha engine, Borla cat-back exhaust. 5 speed transmission. The style is deceiving. Fast car but it looks like Grandma's grocery getter. The only downside is maintenance. Not a lot of people will work on them so you end up doing a lot of the work yourself.

Cons

Brakes, stay away from the automatic transmission

You Think A V-8 Taurus Would Be Faster Than A V-6 Taurus — Unfortunately this was the last year you could get a manual transmission in the SHO's . This was a fantastic car. Ford had pretty much fixed the majority of the problems with the Taurus SHO, and then completely changed the entire vehicle. High revving V-6, gone, manual transmission, gone, performance, gone. Oh well, Ford will be coming out with another version of the SHO soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
