ProsPower, versatility, towing, four wheel drive ConsFuel mileage, maintnance, interior room, ABS

1995 Chevy Blazer — Performance is on par with a large displacement 90* V6. It lakcs a little on the bottom end, but really comes alive around 3000 rpm. Handling is exceptional considering it is a small SUV, but it is no sports car, and it reminds you of that if you start to push it. Braking is average for disc/drum brakes, but the ABS is a bit sensitive. Stopping in snow often requires the use of 4WD or else it will just push the front. Quality is average for GM. The body has over 160,000 miles and has its usual rattles, but I have fixed a few of them. Other than basic maintnance, it has its share of a few parts that need to be replaced, which include oil cooler and filter lines, and the shifter cable. Styling is average for its era. Inside screams bland GM, which sadly has been their stand since the early 90's to now. I have made a few exterior modifications to make it stand out amongst the rest. Cost is a bit high with it only getting 16 mpg. However, I know people who could only get 13 mpg with theirs, or averaging 22 mpg. It really seems to be vehicle specific. It is a bit fun to drive. I wish it was equipped with a posi rear factory, but I will be swapping one in from my 3rd generation Camaro. It's a blast to drive in the snow and is rather easy to get and hold sideways.

Prosi like how ive managed to get out of everything ive gone through and most of it in 2wd and i get nearly 30+ mpg Consi dont like the electronic transfer case, it doesnt like to come out of 4wd and it has a hard time going into 4wd as well.

Its A Fun And Reliable Vehicle — i enjoy having this vehicle, it has been reliable for me and basic matinance is fairly reasonable. i have not had to make any mojor repairs and it seems to be pretty tough with everything ive dished out to it Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

The Car Runs Great It Has Great Power When You Need It. — I love this car. It has been very reliable. I dont really mind the gas mileage. The styling is great and i have put in over 100 hours of work into the paint on this car. It looks immaculate. The only thing that i have had problems with is the four-wheel drive. Primary Use: Commuting to work

The Blazer — hmmmmmmmm, let me see, my blazer has 160,000 miles on it, a cemented on side view mirror, lots of dents, a rusty bumper, but i love it!!!!!! it has had flat tires, and everything, one time the fuel pump went out on me, right on WARDS ROAD, it has caused some headaches but it got me where i needed to go. it did put a large dent in my wallet though!!!

Great Truck And Has Power To Spare... — Interestingly, I never was much of a "Chevy Truck" kind of guy. They seemed ok and all, but never really thrilled; in fact, GM never really thrilled me at all. I've always been a Dodge man for cars and thought Ford had trucks sown down when it came to raw power. After owning a '90 Buick Reatta, '85 Chevy Astro (1st yr model at that!), and now the '95 Blazer, I think I have to reevaluate my opinion on GM products. GM's direct support is mediocre at best, but aftermarket is making up where they are lacking. The Blazer gives new meaning to the term "Gas Guzzler" (hence the 4 out of 5 stars), but it has seriously impressed me. I bought it with 150K+ miles; a security supervisor's patrol vehicle, but as abusive as I am on vehicles (I tend to push them for everything they're designed to do) my only complaint is the POOR gas mileage and spongy suspension. Hell, I thought something was wrong with it, until I spoke with others having the 4dr, 4X4, LT package, and they confirmed these things as normal. Mine came with the Westin Brand side and Roof rails, remote oil filter, tow package (though I gripe that GM did not include the trailer connector, you have to buy that separately!), (apparently rare) Charcoal leather seats with front seat having adjustable (inflatable by seat button) lumbar supports. Driver seat is electronically adjustable (6way). Curb/Debris clearance for street is more than adequate, allowing one to avoid highway debris by simply lining it up between the wheels, and just in case something should hit your undercarriage, there's full-length undercarriage plating (stock) to protect your tranny and the underside of your engine (driver side), though it does not protect your drive shafts (x2 on 4x4), so you'll still need to use common sense. Thought the roof rack hasn't been put to the test, those side rails sure have. My mother, weighing in at over 425lbs stood on then to ingress and egress several times already, and even hauling her in the front passenger seat, two other adults of about 150#lbs each in the rear seats, myself (at 226lbs), and towing a 4x8 trailer with a 350lb engine and several other tools of about 300lbs, she accelerated and ingressed highways as if I was the only one in it. I've seen this type of performance on the Astro's 4.3l Carb engine, but that was a stripped down cargo van weighing in at only 1.5Tons, not this 3Ton+ monstrosity of a SUV (also a 4.3l, but Vortec), and the van was "screaming" to pull it off. This Blazer didn't even break a sweat!! It's definitely a truck you'll love to hate! LOL! (According to the original owner, the Security company's owner, all options, with the exception of the alarm system, were installed at time of purchase). People consentingly laugh it at because its a Jimmy well i find it a very excellent little suv who can go through snow easily and the interior is very nice and comforting inside. So all in all its very spiffy. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

I Wouldn't Get Another One — it was an ok car. sucked on gas, and no reason for it though.small 4.3 L vortec, but it had a decent acceleration. not good for pulling trailer though. expensive on gas, and needed frequent fill ups because of a small tank. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.) |
