Power And Comfort — This was my mom's car but it I put more miles on it than her so it may have well of been mine. My grandparents got new Caddies every few years so I grew up with a respect for the quality and comfort of these cars. However, Caddilac entered a new era with the introduction of the Northstar OHC V8. That motor was a masterpiece of automotive engineering and it is a shame to hear that it is being fazed out for a V6 dominated line. This car has power to spare, an unbelievably smooth ride, and responsiveness that you would not expect from a car this large with such a smooth ride. The car also has surprising good fuel economy for its class and performance level. It actually had comparable real world MPG to my Hyundai Sonota (but it requires Premium so that must be factored into driving costs). The car rarely requires any repairs or unusual maintenance. It was built for to be reliable for years with minimal maintenance. I really enjoyed this car, especially for road trips or hauling people around.

Pros

4.6 DOHC Quad Valve NorthStar V8, Sumptuous Premium Leather Interior & appointments, GM/BOSE am/fm/CD/cassette 11 speaker amplified Active Audio System, & a Roadworthy Suspension.

Cons

She has under 24,000 miles, and the only issues I've had was the replacement of the fuel rails, and a replacement fuse for the electric glass moonroof.

Emotionally Attached ! — An "American Class Act" ! (especially coming from that era) It Has Beauty, Style, Presence, Performance, Substance, Understated (not ostentatious) Luxury, & Elegance. On the road, she is stately, yet responsive..... substantial, but not overtly so. Seems to me to be the perfect sporting luxury compromise - for the price of admission! It worked then, and apparently, still works for me today....

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

32 valve DOHC Northstar V8, Capable Handling & Roadworthy Suspension, Sumptuous Interior & appointments.

Could lose a little weight up front (would be a killer sleeper were it rear wheel drive independent rear suspension, as opposed to front wheel drive).

First Full Size Cadillac, With High-end European Sedan Performance & Flair. — Actually, the Northstar is an excellent engine. It closely resembles a smaller and detuned version of the LT5 that was in the Corvette ZR-1. All aluminum, 32 valve DOHC, 100,000 miles before first tuneup. 300bhp NA horsepower. There are guys taking these motors and putting 20+ psi of boost through them on stock internals. With regular fluid changes (Synthetic oil, & proper aluminum coolant), this motor should be virtually bulletproof.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

The Last Of The True Devilles — I have the 4.9L Cadillac engine - The 4.9L is easy to maintain and was to be the last engine actually made by Cadillac. I enjoy driving my 1995 Deville; it is comfortable and fairly quiet on the road. Once used it as daily transportation to and from work - 100 miles round trip! Averaged around 20 - 22 mpg - this is a V8; not a V6! Today, it is still my favorite car to drive. :) Change the oil and take good care of your Cadillac, and in return it will give you many years of excellent service. Example of some things you may see - your instrument panel one day says "Service Ride Control" and you had just purchased tires. The tire place needs to align the sensors or replace one of the wheel sensors (or just do it yourself)

Get It If Gas Isn't A Factor — Performance - The thing is a tank and performs as such. It accelerates at a good fair speed for weighing as much as it does. Stops quickly and handles with long turns very well, but don't expect a track car. Build Quality - It is built as you expect a Cadillac to be. I have only needed on repair, a new window motor. Appearance - I have been told it is a "Grandpa Car" and it looks as such, but I like it. Cost of Ownership - This thing drinks gas, but with a 4.9L V8 what can you expect. Fun Factor - It is by far the most fun cruise car. I put a new stereo and subwoofers in and it is just the best thing to drive with all the windows down.

Love It! — Nice and smooth acceleration upto 50mph for a large car. Not much for top speed. Incredibly smooth ride. Extremely comfortable and roomy. Decent gas mileage as long as you dont have a lead foot. Great car for transporting friends and family.

Cons

MPG and the Price tag

The Boat — Well to start off this car was a wonderful vehicle. It had a huge Northstar V-8 that shot you like a bullet. It is in the class i like to call "Boat" but the ride was acceptable. The down side to having a big V-8 was of course the 15 mpg that i was getting. This was a very solid-built vehicle and very "high-class."

Pros

I think it is the most comfortable car I have ever driven.

Cons

Mine has a 4.9 engine.  If it has the 4.6 and is older than a 2003 I would advise you to avoid them.  Headgaskets go bad frequently.

My Old Man Car. — This is a 4,400 pound car with a 300 cubic inch engine that rides like a feather bed and gets 26 mpg on the highway and averages 22 mpg in all types of driving. It is expensive to fix but I think its worth it.
