2d 4wd Suv — For a small vehicle it handles great off-road and going into the mountains. It is good at taking corners and going high speeds quickly. The brakes work exceptionally well. It's a fun little vehicle to drive and I would recommend this car to someone who likes driving off-road.

Junk — Comfortable and stylish, that's the only thing good I can say about it. The performance and fuel economy were both pathetic. I got angry at this car every time I drove it. My wife decided it was bad for my blood pressure to own it so we sold it. Best move we ever made. Stay away from it!

Worked For Me — I bought this SUV used from a friend to tow my Civic race car and serve as a vehicle for snowboarding. It was beat up when I bought it for $2.5k, we put in a new motor, wheel bearings and brakes.

Explorer Matt — It's easy to park, paint is strong. People compliment me on the seats being confortable. Plently of ash trays front and back. Plently of people want to ride in it always. Everything on this truck works, really reliable and great vehicle.

A 90's Suv. Everyone Has One. — I like it, my off road vehicle. 4 wheel drive is good for snow too. Ample power to get around in the city. Unfortunately it gets the same mileage as a 5.0 mustang. Not the vehicle you want to drive to and from work everywhere in the summertime when the fuel prices spike up. Great for camping trips and the winter. Alright MPG on long roadtrips makes it bearable. Ice cold A/C too. Transmissions seem to go every 50-100,000 km too. Best to make sure the fluid is changed every few oil changes and add an extra trans cooler as well.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Ford Got This One Right. I Love It. — I absolutely love my 94 Ford Explorer. It's 16 years old and the only thing, other than routine maintenance, that I have had to do to it was to replace the cheesy fiber lower intake manifold gasket, as it was leaking coolant. Do yourself a favor and use the metal one that Ford now offers. Although the 1st generation Explorer's have all the aerodynamics of a shoebox, Ford did a great job of blending style and function, with this rugged little utilitarian vehicle. It gets around in the snow like nobody's business, and has towed a good many sub compacts (and a few full sized 4X4s) out of assorted snowbanks. I was leery about "pushbutton" 4 wheel drive (never had one before), but I'm a fan now. She starts to spin a little, just push the button, 4X4 engages and off you go. She's not once left me sit. Take care of it, and it'll take care of you. I do, however, wish that the engine had a bit more power, but that's the only thing that I'd change about this well built, rugged and durable piece of equipment.

Pros

Plenty of room in this one... and the 4WD worked - She could get through the mud with ease - with standard tires -

Cons

Transmission is made of plastic!  Lost mine 3 times and I never EVER rode her hard.

1994 Ford Explorer — She was a good ride - so/so on gas - but big in comfort. Rode nice and was reliable until the tranny died 3 DANG TIMES - and the final time was it - once I got it road ready, I sold it and never looked back.

Pros

Excellent reliability, comfort

Cons

Bulky size made for lower mpg, and harder to keep straight at higher speeds.

True Ford Built Reliabilty In A 90's Suv! — This SUV was bought for $500 to be used a winter beater. The interior of the car was shot, having succumbed to use for work, hauling dead deer, going off-roading, and even an electrical fire. The body was not in the best shape, with the rocker panels and rear wheel wells rotting. However, with 160,000 miles on it, the 4.0L V6 and the 4 speed auto transmission kicked as strong as ever. A simple change of differential gears helped this cause, and the four wheel drive worked excellent. I also found the leather all power drivers seat (with lumber support) in this 1994 vehicle MORE comfortable than the seat in my 2001 Mustang. Funny, huh? The car handled very rough at higher speeds, due to its boxy size and its need of a front end alignment. However, it proved to be reliable (like all Fords are) in even the worst snow conditions.

Cons

Very Fun To Drive. — This explorer has no acceleation power but has a very stong engine. I put new brakes on it and spark plugs that sort of thing. This car pops when releasing the brake pedal. I have gotten into many recks with it so i bought a new front end on it and put it all on. The interior pretty nice but could always use some tlc. Gas mileage i get about 14 in town and 16 on high way. This car is easy to work on the really fun to mess around in.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)
