Towing and Reliability

Fuel Mileage and Brakes (related to the towing)

1994 Chev K1500 — Fuel Mileage could be better, but it will tow anything i've ever tried. 383 000km on it and counting. Powertrain has been very solid. body is starting to finally show its age a little. it is after all a 15 year old truck already. Would definately buy another one just like it

Awesome truck for any application

Cons

none

Best Chevy Truck Made — It's a Z71. It's an excellent truck, even with 208K miles on it. The only thing wrong with it at the moment is the rust on the hood, below the doors and in the bed. Performance- acceleration is great for a 1/2 ton, braking is good, handling is great Build Quality- excellent, it's needed a few repairs over the years, but i'm glad to keep it running well. Appearance- interior is nice, not in perfect condition, but still ok, exterior is the best body style Chevy has done, mine has rust in places Cost of Ownership- mileage is about 15-16MPG, not super, but if you want something with balls, that's what you get. maintenance is normal for a vehicle with 200K+ miles on it Fun Factor- very fun to drive if you like trucks. with a little lift and some nice tires it's a beast.

Pros

engine is almost unbreakable

Cons

transmission is kinda weak but not bad

35

Works Great Just Dont Beat On It To Hard — fuel injection system is kinda dissapointing, other than that motor is amazing, 4wd takes some time to engage due to a temp sensor in the front axle but a 100 part will fix that, other than that this truck is amazing, its been through hell and back offroad and has come back asking for more

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

Haul everything, never worry about the engine

Cons

Bring a lot of cash for gas and incase the tranny goes

Haul Anything And Everything You Want To And Do It Until It Rusts Away — Awesome vehicle, I can haul and tow anything I want to and I've got over 235k miles on it now. No complaints, original engine, 3rd transmission. Transmissions are VERY costly and don't seem to last too long, that's the biggest gripe. That and the 14MPG.

Get It. — This truck is a beast. If you want a reliable vehicle get a chevrolet. It has no balls because it's a v6 but it gets decent gas mileage. One day they will make this truck again. Do recommend. It is painted as so one can not see the rust.

Pros

350 in it is a perfect match for this truck and me.

Cons

the one down side to this sucker is parking for it on busy streets.

Beats Everything Out There That Is The Same Age As This Truck — this truck has balls to it. it is a well made good ol' american machine. needs some fixing up, but the majorty of it runs like new. deffenetly makes the guys in bmw's and mercadi really run for their money to beat me off the line.

Cons

Fuel Mileage

Worth It. — Gets from A to B, despite any road conditions. Needs typical rust work on the fenders, quarters, and rocker panels. Sounds decent, not too loud (like half the chevys in town- get a muffler). Dual exhaust-2 racing mufflers, Rockford Fosgate sound system, 3" Rough Country full suspension lift, Nitto snow/mud tires. Fun to drive!!! Just expensive... Overall, a great vehicle for work, and play..

Good Running — good running, a bit rusty now, but not bad on fuel with the 5.0L engine and the O/D tranny. I call him "Chet". "Chet" is fun to drive and hes beena good 'workhorse' for me for the past 2+ years. I bought him well used sitting in the back of a dealers lot in the brush. He fired right up and I brought him home.

A Good First Vehicle. — First off I would like to state that my truck is a single cab step side not the extended cab. It has the 4.3L V6 TBI LB4 engine. It produces a mild 165hp @ 4000rpm and 235 lb-ft torque @ 2000rpm. Though the engine is not all that great, power wise, it is a reliable long lasting piece of engineering. Even after 16 years on the road and 108k miles it is still mechanically sound. A friend of mine had to replace the transmission in his Ford after just 70k miles and less than 1 year off the car lot. It's rated at 13/17 MPGs but, I have been able to get almost 16 MPGs city and 20 MPGs highway. The interior of the truck is rather plain like most 90s vehicles but the step side and raised rear end makes up for the lack of interior styling. Though the 0-60 is about 10 seconds, it will hit 40 in roughly 4.5 seconds. I'm not sure what the top speed is but I have been over 90 mph for sure. The brakes will stop it dead in its tracks and can turn on a dime due to the short wheel base. There is almost no rust on my Chevy and it has never been in a garage or carport. There is a small spec of rust on the hood and driver's side door. There is plenty of room under the hood to add accessories or even drop in a big block 502. There are also quite a few aftermarket addons for the exterior. One downside is changing out parts. GM put a lot of parts around / in the way of the sparkplugs and made changing out the starter almost impossible to do alone.
