Great Little Work Truck That Gets Good Gas Mileage - Don't Try To Race It — This is an exciting 98 bhp 2.3L 4 cylinder truck. It has been in my family since it was bought off the dealer lot. I am the third family owner of it. Only has 107,000 miles on it. I only drive it about 1,200 miles a year and that's been the case since 2002. It had 98,000 miles on it when I bought it from my dad. I have read nothing but negative reviews on the repair history for this truck but for some reason, it has been as good as gold for my family. We do perform regular maintenance on it and replace parts before they break so maybe that's the key. However, it gets great gas mileage (21 mpg around town and close to 31 on the highway). We upgraded the exhaust into a gibson cat back system and it improved gas mileage by 2 mpg. It also bumped up the horsepower another 6 or 7 bhps. We installed a customer airflow intake system and that added another 1 or 2 mpg improvement and probably added 10 bhp. It is probably pumping out about 114 bhp now and has noticeably more kick and punch to it. Just replaced the timing belt and the water pump but that was to be expected. Rides great since replacing the shocks and tires last year. Very reliable. Always starts. Even when it sits for months. Love this truck. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

ProsI like the power and reliability of the motors. ConsI don't like how the front end is lower than the back.

The Bottom Line Is That If I Were To Buy Another Small Truck I Would Definatly Buy Another Ranger. — Ford Rangers are very reliable trucks. They handle great in snow and on ice. The 2wd's are even great in the mud. The motors are very reliable. Mine has a little over 237k on the 4.0v 6, and its never been rebuilt and it doesnt burn a drop of oil. This Was My Second Car I Got It When It Had 146k On It And It Has 168 On It Now I Love It — my truck is fun and i love it i drive it home from school almost every weekend. i put a cluch in at about 150, the onwer before me got it stuck and fried the cluch, and new tires at the sametime but besides for that it has not ever given me a problem. it is purple and has a topper. i need to replace the shocks soon they are about done in. it is dependable and i am going to drive it till it wont go any more.

Best — Best Vehicle ever owned looking to totally restore it this summers. great little truck lots of power for a 4 cylinder pulled out a 1978 bronco that has sat for years with just 300 xtra pounds in the back for traction. put new clutch in all new bearings in and a new master cylinder and it drives and handles like a dream Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

2,500 — My brake lights do not light up when the brake pedal is depressed. It is only a four cylinder so it doesnt have to much power but it does get excellent mpg. It does look very stylish. i just have to drop a 350 small block in it and un-ghetto some of the things i have done on it. But it is very loud with dual exhaust and glass packs on each pipe and no muffler or catalytic converter. Enough to make the windows on a cop car vibrate wen u drive by topping second gear out. its only got 135,000. Primary Use: Commuting to work
