Beautiful Vehicle, Fast And Elegant, But Expensive To Repair — I purchased this simply because I always wanted a Corvette. Polo Green Metallic with a beige leather interior and the Targa removable roof panel which was perfect for Southern California. I chose the automatic transmission for the freeways which are always stop and go out here and the car provided lots of driving pleasure. On the positive side, the LT-1 V8 was highly responsive and combined with the tuned port injection, propelled the vehicle to any speed you wanted effortlessly. Shifts were not as crisp as I would like and in the hot summer weather, the radiator proved to be too small to meet the cooling needs of the engine and transmission. The all digital gauges were a nice touch, but analog would have been nicer and more in keeping with the traditional Corvette style. To solve the high temperature issues, we installed a low temperature thermostat with bypass, and also a performance chip that started the cooling fans at a lower temperature and improved the shift points of the transmission, while offering a performance boost to the engine as well, while still meeting the California CARB smog requirements. One problem that was more difficult and costly to resolve was the distributor vent issue, in that the distributor was designed so that moisture could end up inside the unit and once in, no way to dry out. That little problem was about $800-$1,000 fix since it required major down time, a radiator pull, etc. Unfortunately, unless you or your mechanic knew how to prevent this from recurring, after the costly repair you were likely to be seeing this ugly repair happen again in the future. I understand there were aftermarket distributors and kits to preclude this, but it's unlikely the dealer was going to install these. (I didn't have the dealer do the above work, so you know I only had the work done once!) We did cruise Route 66 with the car, for after all, what's driving a Corvette without cruising Route 66 when both are readily available? Yes, we did play 60's tunes at the same time too! All-in-all, a great car. Not much trunk space, especially with the Targa top stowed in its' slots in the hatchback. Enough for a weekend bag and lots of fun for a couple out to enjoy the sun and a trip across the Mother Road, Route 66. Owner for 2 years, 0 months Miles Driven per Year:5,000

ProsIf the have the money and/or talent of mechanical repairs, go ahead and buy one. ConsDistributor location. Behind harmonic balancer and below the water pump. The distributor and water pump are powered by the cam shaft and timing chain through a spline shaft. Meaning they need to have seals, meaning more chances for an oil leak to occur and take out the distributor. Also, if the water pump goes, it's take out your distributor. Now if you can begin to imagine, when the distributor goes bad the water pump and the harmonic balancer need to come OUT!

I Would Recommend This Car To A Friend, Not Without Telling Him To Get Rid Of The Factory Ignition. — You have to love the clam shell hood but you also have the hate the Optispark ignition system. It's the first year for the 92' base model to come with the LT-1 motor, 300 HP 330 TQ. Alot of today' s V6' s are coming out with that much but the Corvette' s 300 is still fun regardless. 1992-1992 Corvettes are not very mechanic friendly, remember that. Asides from that, can't help but love them. 1984-1996 aren't the best built cars interior wise, expect rattles and squeaks. You will literally sit "in" one of these cars, with the high door sills. This generation is NOT for everyone, if you are a certain height(tall) and or a certain weight(heavy) Sorry to say the truth, you will have to skip over to the next generation. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsEverything....it is my baby. I just wish I could get it fixed so I can drive it again. ConsState Farm didn't total the car after the accident and now it doesn't run right, trans is bad, there is an electrical short when wet, ASR is sketchy, ABS kicks in at odd times, E Brake comes on and locks out ABS when you accelerate or brake too hard.....and now the stereo is having some minor issues and the fuel system is having problems since I went away to school and no one kept the car running.

Once Great......needs Help Now! — It has good acceleration and braking....as long as you don't have ASR on. It drives like its on rails and corners flat. The body is dead quiet no sounds except for my 5500 watt 19 speaker stereo. The body is in great condition after a complete resto and complete cut and buff finish. Interior is stock and clean. I got about 27 MPG driving down and back from Florida...city is not so nice....lol...but that is my fault. I loved to drive this before it was hit by a drunk driver...State Farm "fixed it" instead of totaling it. It doesn't run right since the accident. Even the mechanic is stumped to half the stuff occuring....I need Overhaulin or some T.V. show to come save my ride!!! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Solid Corvette. — It hasn't been used in a while, but it is a classic. It needs a few repairs to it. It looks amazing for the year it is. There is not a lot of miles on it. The interior is awesome. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Vette — It's awesome Doug Rippie 383 stroker with bilstien suspension in fact my dad joked that thier is nothing american left in that car put the interior. I only get about 11mpg, but if you mash the pedal to the floor you quickly forget. Thanks for the car dad. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Good All-around Car. Big And Heavy Enough — It's just a nice car to ride and drive. I'm a conservative driver and spend a lot of time on SoCal freeways. Averages 26 mpg for me. Owner for 10 years, 0 months Miles Driven per Year:16,500
