Pros

It is spacy and owning a one doesn't cost much.

Cons

It has a small block 4 cillinder engine and it's weak.

Good Family Car But Not For Races Or Something Like That. — It's an average family car. It accalerates good, brakes are good, handling is very good. It is a good car and it doesn't need much repairs. Exterior is exelent for a car from 1991. interior is clasic but comfi. It is a family car so it is not so much fun to drive.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Not Everybodys Cup Of Tea As I Assume, It's A Vw Thing... You Wouldn't Understand! :] — Might be ageing but still a fine piece of '80s German engineering I love it! Top of the range GTI 16V in sought after diamond silver colour. Power- : -steering, - locks, -windows, sunroof plus a massive boot! The car thanks to being so light and short wheel based is very agile and nimble, very neutral through the bends with predictable reactions. Acceleration for a 20year old car with no major upgrades is fantastic 0-60 is about 8s, tested top speed 130-135mph is also respectable for a car of this age with only 1.8 engine. Disc brakes all round no ABS though, handbrake is disappointing. I have lowered the car some 40mm and it now has koni suspension so it handles nicely thou the comfort has suffered as the roads aren't so great around London - the car is alergic to high speed bumps :) Ok so it doesn't look as fab as all the new shiny cars, but I still think it is cool as there aren't as many around now which makes it stand out from the crowd but not too much. Oh, and it can still smoke a lot of the newer cars off the lights as it has very short gear ratio and is much lighter than most of them. Costs are another plus, cheap insurance, cheap service and parts, fuel economy isn't great but you can live with it 28(city)-36(m-way)mpg The car is an absolute star! My little pocket rocket, aka. the Silver Bullet 2 :) Is this car fun to drive? On a scale from 0 to 10 it would score 11! (now honestly, considering all the ups and downs I have had with this car I would easily award it with a solid 8)

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

runs great holds up well not many problems

Cons

old

Solid After 17 Years — This is a great car for some one just learning to drive. built like a rock except the stupid plastic trim pieces. the down side to the solidity of the car is it's heavy is even with 170 some horse power the acceleration is pretty bad. the gas millage is really bad for short trips but pretty good for the age of the car. i haven't had too many problems heater core, breaks have had a few problems, and other small things i think its fun to drive its really good for being old its great if you take into account how old it is with out being restored

Pros

Great looking car, very comfortable

Cons

Heavy and not very well equiped

1992 Volkswagen Jetta Gx 1.6 8v — The Mk2 Jetta was basically a Golf with a boot. It was a really heavy car and didn't even have power steering. Really solid car, barely had a thing go wrong with it throughout it's entire life. Very basic equipment, but very comfortable ride!

Dirty Wagen — From the MK2 generation, comes my 91 Jetta. German built from the Wolfsburg factory; it doesn't suffer the build quality issues like that of other production lines. Power comes from a 1.8 liter, 8 valve, four cylinder. It's solidly built with a Audi block, and a aluminum head; which is mated to a 3 speed automatic. The power comes on gradually, and becomes fun above 3000 rpm all the way to about 6800 rpm. Faster than most modern sub- econo-boxes, it's fun to drive. The handling is balanced and better than I expected. It's not to be mistaken for a sports car, and certainly not for it's big brother, the GTI. The braking is powerful, and more than ample to stop this car in a hurry. No ABS here, it requires some intelligence. At speed down the highway it averages about 32 MPG, which is impressive for it's time. Repair costs have be moderate; proper parts are German, and cost proper money.

Just Like My First Car! — Love this car because it reminds me of my first car. Lots of interior room and trunk space. Buddy removed the A/C unit, so there is a ton of room to do work in the engine compartment. My family owned a VW repair shop for more than 25 years. Always something to fix on these old birds though. Great for the winter, as skinny tires grip better in the grooves of the ice and snow. The car I picked up is unfortunately automatic and I have to be gentile on the trans with it. I have some bugs I need to work out yet but hope to have it on the road soon!

91 Mk2 Jetta — I would say this is a great project car body wise, the motor runs like a champ. I got it from a guy in Germany and it was rough, but I gave it 3.5K worth of parts and coil over lowering spring, rebuild and beefed up the motor, exhaust, oil, lots and lots of premium high octane fuel, paint touch up, racks, tires, 800 dollar stereo with subs. But now it needs to be painted

Great Car, Just Dont Buy A 95 And Up!!! — very sporty feeling car, felt fast, handled well, and the best brakes ever. Very well built car, and it was always clean and looked great. The red color always made it worth it to give it a fresh coat of wax. Great on gas!!
