ProsGreat run-a-round car, cheap, and solid. ConsNot enough leg room for tall folks, and the sound system.

89/100 — This is an all around stocky car. The handling is nice, it sticks to the curves, on the autobahn it performs wonderful, and they last forever! These things were built to stand the test of time. They are so easy to work on and to modify, if you feel so inclined. I am not really into the whole blocky look, but I picked up one over the weekend for $400 USD. Nothing wrong with it but a little bit of rust. You could do allot worse that pick up one of these babies!! Over all, I give it 89/100. |

ProsSpeed, acceleration. practicality, understatement. ConsIf you like to buy new heaps of tin. Fear of speed. If you care about electric windows and MP3 players.

Definately An Enthusiasts Cult Vw- And Rare In The Uk Too. — Very fast with a 68 mm SC pulley- about 190 Bhp. Would still acelerate in Germany at indicated 245 km/h! Good brakes, understeery handling, some torque steer and wheel spin in third! Golf GTi Mk G60. Solid build quality- puts equivalent era Fords to shame. Classic Golf Mk2 looks- with big bumpers. Good gas mileage-easy to achieve 28-32 mpg on a run. Zero depreciation- made money on this car. Lots of fun- very understated- easy to take on Porsches and BMWs on the autobahn and leave them for dead on the right lane. Primary Use: Commuting to work |

More Blood Sweat And Tears Than Money Is Worth — This car is so much fun, just point it, floor it, and go. This thing is like a go-cart on steroids. It fells likes its on rails and is years ahead of it's time. The tiny 4 cylinder 8v motor only has 105hp in a car this size it is fun to drive. The 16v GTI version is perfect if you want a little more go. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |

Wv Golf Ii Td — Great car, cheap spareparts and good km/l. Could use a intercooler to increase power. Very reliable and very few electrical gadgets that can fail. It could use new seats, but what can one expect from at car build in '91...... Buy one with metallic paint, it will look a lot better than white. |

If You Find A Clean One Keep It, It'll Last Forever! — great car for someone single or as a first car, tough, reliable, simple, parts were cheap, great handling. It never broke down, I sold it to my brother, then he sold it to my other brother who sold to a delivery guy and it still runs today! Changed the clutch when i got it and that's the biggest repair i ever did. Primary Use: Commuting to work |

Awesome Car — OMG. 130k+ and counting. I bought this car new for 13k US because it was exactly what I wanted. I even used it to commute for about 10 years. I love the sporty euro look and feel (exterior and dashboard speedo/tach appearance). I also love the Wolfsburg Edition extras like the teardrop mags, the nice stereo, and the sunroof. I basically just think this is an awesome car. It has required very little maintenance. The biggest thing we did was replace the timing belt. I've recently bought a 2010 Mazda 3, but I think I will hold onto my Golf because it's just that cool. Yeah, it's starting to burn a little oil (some white smoke on startup), it has some front end problems, and it has a replacement muffler and catalytic converter, and it needs a little extra water in the radiator now and then. Still, after 20 years of living next to the Pacific Ocean, it's a wonder it has only needed minor things like a fuel filter and clutch cable over the years. Great car! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |

1991 Volkswagen Golf 4 Dr Gl Hatchback — Performance: Slow low down in the revs. Once the turbo kicks in it is Ok I got 90MPH out of it no problems. Brakes are Ok, you have to have faith in them. Handles a bit rolly polly but plenty of grip. Bulit Quality: Very good. Appearence: Nice classic car. Cost of Ownership: 1.6 Turbo Diesel very economical Fun Factor: I loved it! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |

ProsLooks Great with the top down. ConsWould be better not so low.

1991 Volkswagen Golf 2 Dr Gl Hatchback — Performance: Not very fast, reasonable. Brakes are Ok. Handles well on low springs and shocks but doesn't like potholes or speedbumps. Build Quality: Very Good. Not a lot to go wrong. Appearence: Very nice, especially on a hot, sunny day with the top down. Cost of Ownership: Very thrifty Fun Factor: Loads of fun. Can't beat it. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |
