Me Oughta — Great blance, slow stock, but cheap and easy to get more than you ever could handle. If you like to go off for a drive thru all kinds of roads, this car will thrill youtono end. Light, agile, and fun. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

91 Mazda Miata, The Most Overlooked Sports Car — The Miata is one of those cars that is so much more than its spec sheet. On paper it is a little convertible with a dinky 1.6L engine that makes 100 hp on a good day. Doesn't sound to thrilling, but driving it is something I think every car person should. The uber light weight and front and rear double wishbone suspension and this car a go-kart for grown ups. This car is by far the funnest car I have driven, and I have driven alot of faster cars. This one I will hold onto forever.

ProsZoom Zoom ConsBang Bang (Darn Michigan Roads)

Miata — Performance: Acceleration is moderate. On par with a typical V6 sedan from the 90's. Braking and hanlding are superb. Build Quality: It has some rattles and cowl shake. Overall pretty solid though. Repair side, it has been excellent. Apperance: It could use some masculinity. Cost of Ownership. Expensive to buy (relatively speaking) but cheap to operate. Low maintenance and around 38-40mpg on premium. Around 34mpg on 87 octane. (Ignition timing advance when running premium) Fun Factor: The #1 reason to buy. It's not that fast but incredibly fun to drive. (It's handles like a go cart)

Pros257,000 Trouble Free Miles and the guy who bought it from me is still driving the heck out of it. ConsShe did have a tendency to skip a bit in tight turns if it was a bit rough.

Most Fun For The Dollar, Ever — A lot of people have told me these early Miatas were underpowered. A lot of people don't know how to drive a high spirited 4 cyl engine. The engine had a red line of nearly 6,000 rpm and didn't even begin it's peak torque until 4,000 rpm. Starting at 4,000 it would jump to 5,500. If you kept the engine in that rpm range, it had all the power you could ask for. Thing is, at 4,000 rpm in fifth gear, you were going 80 mph. But, at 80 mph it would set you back, if you stomped on it. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsLooks great, Affordable, Fun to drive, Reliable, Good gas mileage, High resale value, Easy to wash, Easy to raise and lower convertible top. ConsHard to get in and out of, lacks power, small trunk, small battery, 2 seats, no a/c, no power door locks, no power windows, and no power steering.

Simple Fun To Drive Reliable And Affordable Convertible Sports Car. — Only time it has let me down is when battery went dead. Had this car for about ten years without any other trouble. My first import car and I will never buy another American made car. I have owned a new Chevrolet pick up and even a one year old Corvette, the Miata has blown both away with purchase price, fuel economy, insurance cost, and reliability.

Prosfun to drive, good value for the money, has been dependable Consno storage but also knew that before purchase

Fun Driving Toy — This little MX5 guy is fun to drive. Gas mileage of 25 mpg seems a bit low for the size but I can live with it. Bought it to replace a motorcycle and find it a similar though different experience. Shifts well and while the acceleration is only acceptable (it is not torquey nor powerful like a Honda 2000) the handling is tight. One can grip the road through a curve while accelerating. More room for the driver than one may expect. Minimal storage, but can carry enough for a weekend get away tooling through back country roads to a destination. NOT a bad weather car as rear wheel drive will break traction and slide on wet leaves, but a small convertable should not be deemed a winter vehicle anyway. Good summer part time toy. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsThe most fun you can have with your cloths on! ConsOther large cars do not see it since it is so small. High Horse power cars try to race you, but this car is designed for great handling not for Speed.

Great Fun Convertable — The Mazda Miata can still be found with lower mileage for very reasonable cost. We purchased our 1991 SE with hardtop with 49k miles in late 2009 for $7,500 and that included delivery from Florida. The Miata is so easy to work on and the miata.net community is the most helpful of any car that I know of. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsHandling ConsThe hood never lasts

Not For Hairdressers. — Needs wider wheels/tyres. Skids on braking because it's so light. Acceleration is quick, not just because of engine, but also short-shifting close-ratio gearbox. Beautifully agile. Sills can rust easily, requires regular top up of waxoil to keep it all beautiful. Find one with a hard top.
