Pros

Motors are top of the line quality, at least mine was, I was the same design as the 350 so I know the bigger motors they put in them are just as good

Cons

I've heard of my friends have transmission troubles too, not too big on the 700R4.

Get You One, If You Need A Good Work Truck — Hell of work truck and that was good because that is exactly what i used it for. It was only a half ton truck but I loaded it double than that at least once a week the whole time I owned it, I had the smallest motor they put in them, the 4.3l v6 but it pulled everything I needed it to, I never once replaced a single part on the motor, but because of the extensive stress I was putting on the transmission hauling the loads that I knew I shouldn't have been hauling, I had blown out the transmission and thats when the truck and I parted ways, overall GREAT truck

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

If You Need A Truck, Buy A Chevy — One of Chevy's best truck designs (I thought) were the models they had during the 90s. This was my first car, and in some ways my first love. She had 74,000 miles on her when I got her... and 273,000 miles on her when I traded her in. I have never loved owning a car more than this one. This truck was as reliable as the day is long. The only things ever replaced were wear items (and the transmission once, but that's because my step-father used it to pull a trailer that was far too heavy) and the rear end (once). 3 batteries, 2 alternators, one water pump, one rear end, a LOT of oil changes and a few tune-ups and this truck never ever let me down. The only time I was ever stranded was when the aftermarket alarm went on the fritz. If you need a truck, buy a Chevy. You'll thank me later.

Ageless — this truck honestly will last forever, give it basic care and you can easily take it to a quarter million miles. Look on the roads and you still see a crapload of this truck driving around, and nowhere near as many early 90s ford or rams, they just don't last like a chevy.

Pros

I purchased this truck brand new in High Point NC on dec 29th 1991.  It has a V-6 straight drive.  I love this vehicle, it has towed our camper for about 4 years, it has moved me from NC to MA to NY.  For the trucks 10th birthday it had a complete interior re-do.  Swapped out bench seat, wish I kept it, with a dual seat style with a flip down center console. and carpet. For the trucks 20th birthday it got a complete makeover from a local paint shop in Schodack NY ( Latch's Autobody).  They panelized the original paint scheme and made it one of a kind.  They did and awesome job.  Current mileage in 230,000.02.  Truck runs smooth, drives very gentle and makes me proud everytime I drive it.

Cons

Rear main seal at differential leaks.  Been repaired 3 times, but still leaks,  so i now only fill it to the leak and we are good

Still Running At 280,000 Miles — The 6.2L chevy diesel is one of the worst motors chevy has made... The nickname WHITE GOST comes from my father inlaw cuz he says the truck likes me. It has no power, braking sucks, handling??? Its a 1991 so the build quality is very good along with the appearance. All and all it is a very fun truck to have. I smile every time I hop in it and fire it up with that nice black cloud. The one thing is that everyyone knows its me when I'm in the gost.

Love It. — Its a 305 automatic. 700 r trans i think. Its a stout motor, not too fast, but holds its own. I just bought it last week, but so far i love it. Its roomy for me. And extremely comfortable. I plan some mild engine mods like headers, and k&n filter. I also plan to paint it and put some new lights/bumpers etc. on it. I bought it with new(radiator, hoses, exhaust, etc) I've put on a new (starter, inner door handle, mirror, brake pedal pad, belt, etc) Also pulled a non working alarm, and some other odds and ends. Its a perfect running truck, i love it.
