The Audi 90 was a higher end Audi 80, sharing the same platform, but offering more standard features and luxury elements. The 1991 Audi 90 front-wheel drive sedan was the base model. It came with a 2.3-liter, 130-hp I5 married to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The base model was nicely equipped, offering a sunroof, power windows and locks, cruise control, fog lights, 4-wheel ABS, and power heated mirrors. It certainly was not your average four-door sedan. Options added on heated leather seats, power front seats with memory settings, a security system, and a trip computer.
Naturally, all the high end comforts inside were a big draw to drivers looking for an upscale commuter, family, or business car. The 1991 Audi 90 STD handled smoothly, has good cornering, and still feels safe and sturdy on the road. Complaints focus on high repair bills and lack of cupholders.

The main difference between the Audi 90 STD sedan and the quattro AWD sedan is the quattro technology. While the base model is a front-wheel drive, the 90 quattro features Audi's innovative torque distribution system. The two share the same 2.3-liter I5 engine, but on the quattro it was tweaked to get 164-hp. Because quattro models were not paired with auto trans, the 90 quattro had a 5-speed manual transmission.
As far as standard features, they were similar to that in the base 90, but added a rear spoiler and special supportive seats for that extra bit of offroad adventure the quattro promised. Drivers love these luxurious standard elements (sunroof, air conditioning, fog lights, cruise control), plus the optional heated leather seats, power front seats with memory, and ski bag. They say the AWD is a monster in the snow and feels very surefooted on any surface. Handling and power are also strong points.
