Great Engine. Rusts Easily. — I have loved the toyotas with 22r engines. Last forever. The body rusts way fast though.

Pros

Extremely reliable work truck. Heavy suspension and long bed take a huge load for a small bodied truck. Inexpensive and easy to fix. The chrome bumpers are beat to hell, but still shine.

Cons

Stiff ride. The cockpit is cozy, but at 6'1" I still have a couple of notches to move the driver's seat back. Small truck cabs are noisy.

A Great Small Bodied Work Truck — They don't make 'em like this anymore. No fancy parts. No computer codes. Reliable, easy to troubleshoot and cheap to fix. I paid $2200 for this truck 10 years and 100,000 miles ago. It has required very little repair. It is an exceptional utilitarian vehicle that does what I ask of it extremely well. The V6 is a great motor for the light frame and body. The extra leaf lets you cary a ton in the bed although, on very rare occasions, I have carried 2,500 lbs. a short distance without the tires rubbing. The long bed gives plenty of room to load up. This is a perfect truck for in-bed campers or towing trailers. At 24 years old and 250,000 miles, it is going strong. My 1-Ton is sort of like a favorite dog, and it is likely that I'll still be driving it ten years from now.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros

Cons

Toyota's are known for the rust !!

I Won't Recomend This Truck To A Friend Because I Will Never Sell It — I love its dependability , but hate the amount of rust on it ! What can you expect for an 18 year old truck with 481 thousand km's on it ?? I have owned it since October 2000 , and on average it costs me about a grand a year to keep on the road ! I've changed the cab and front sheetmetal once , had the rearend rebuilt and last fall I changed the box and fixed the frame to get it to pass inspection ! I get better milieage than my mother who owns a new Saturn VUE , its a blast to drive , handles like its on rails and stops on a dime !

Great Compact Pickup Truck! — Mine is a 4cyl, 4x4 5 speed. It has the SR5 package, bucket seats with lumbar support, upgrade cloth door panels, 3 spoke tilt wheel and gauge package but not much else... The 22RE engine is great for a 4cyl but it's still a 4cyl! Other than the acceleration, the performance is great!

Good Truck — originally got for winter vehicle, but ended up selling it before winter. Strong 3.0 V6 w 5 spd. good pulling performance. ok mileage for a truck. not very quick, minimal repairs needed other than fixing rusted body parts, sort of fun to drive for a truck. had 4 in lift and 33 in tires

1990 Toyota — Well I owned this truck for 3 years now.And it's been a good truck in my book. It is a money pit but it does have almost 220k miles to.If you get one get the 22r or 22re the 3.0 v6 sucked bad.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)
