1988 Transam — 1988 was a bad year for the firebird/transam. 305 TBI should have never been used in this car. 170hp at the crank 129 at the wheels is nothing to be boasting about. If it wasn't for the style of this car for the time then chances are it wouldn't have done so well.

Looks Great — Very stylish. Good acceleration. The WS6 package gives it better handling. Love the sound and feel of an older muscle car. Great overall car to be used as a daily driver or weekend cruiser. Little needs to be done to the car.

Pros

Great styling and performance and it has stood the test of time.  Very solid powertrain with reasonable maintenance costs.  Outstanding handling and the best exhaust note of any car I have owned.

Cons

Cheap plastic in the interior and some squeaks and rattles.

A Classic American Performance Car. — I sold a pristine BMW convertible for this car with no regrets. Of the 20 plus cars I have owned, the GTA is my favorite. An imperfect automobile that has enough character to outshine any flaws. No complaints-buy them why you can still find them. It took me over two years to find a clean low mileage GTA for under $10k.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

Fun, quick, responsive.

Cons

GM interior quality loses again.

Worth The Investment To Save! — She responds to mods well, but runs out of breath too soon as does any TPI. Interior has some creakiness improved with subframe connectors. Suspension is a blast just with stock. Body looks great! Gas mileage is decent for the V8.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

Powerful future classic american muscle

Cons

no real reason-gas mileage maybe and small rear seats very low to ground but all those things don't matter when you get behind the wheel.

Cons

It was haunted - it made me a bad bad boy.

Italian Red, Gold Rims, Can We Say Gino ? — I sold the '85 305 Trans Am for this automatic '88 350 V8 GTA. Once again - way ahead of its time. This dash display was like you were piloting the Starship Enterprise. Oh I had a lot of fun in this car too. T-tops as well. I bought this Trans Am because I thought they looked BETTER than the Corvettes of the same era. I just wish I had of had manual instead of auto. I got into a lot of trouble with this car. Cant explain here. I miss the Gold rims - this certified my Gino status.

fun and a head turner

Cons

moderately expensive to own

The American Dream — I love my Trans Am GTA. The professional suspension package handles like a dream! Acceleration and cornering abilities are superb! Gas mileage is about 20 mpg but real Americans don't care about that! This car is super fun to drive and turns a lot of heads because they know you are a serious car guy!

nothing its a muscle car

Pure Muscle — This is an oustanding example of a pure muscle car from the late 80's. Outstanding acceleration, cool styling, easy to work on, and owns mustangs. Pontiac should never have stopped making the Trans Am or gone out of business at all.

You may want to look good in a car but in my eyes all you need is the sound and you cant beat a V8 for sound quality because it just rumbles, slowly ticking over waiting to eat you up with sound. Read More
