The 560 SEC is within the same chassis specifications as the SEL, which include an almost identical transmission, suspension, in addition to having the same 5.6 liter. naturally aspired V8 KE Jetronic fuel distributor and fuel injection system. The luxurious leather interiors were the same, and, these two vehicles cost about the same (About $80,000 back in the eighties) and where the top of the Mercedes line manufactured longer than any other vehicle of its era. The only obvious differences between the 560 SEC and SEL were the size of the vehicles, the number of doors and seats, and of course weight, making the SEC slightly quicker than the SEL.

Pros

Luxury. Spacious and all the comforts of home,  Sun Roof with optional moon roof if you want to let the heat out but keep the sun off of you.

Cons

Too fancy to drive during winter storms.  Doesn't seat our entire family.

Luxury Without Compromise. — Love this car but need something a bit smaller and more economical for our teen driver. Comfortable ride yet only seats four people and we are a family of five. Huge trunk space and the sunroof in the spring and fall are so much fun. Seat warmers in the winter are fun for the buns!

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

This 560 SEL is currently a very low maintenance car. The engine is very powerful, it feels and drives like a muscle car. The interior is very plush and it feels and looks really good. The new cd player and speakers are a joy to listen.

Cons

The body needs touch up paint or a professional polishing job. It has some minor scratches and dings, and the paint is pealing in some areas of the hood, top, and trunk.  The car is a V-8 so the millage is a consideration even though the Mercedes Benz engineers redesigned the 5.6 litter engine to be more economic that previous models. However, it is a very good thing that gasoline prices are a low as they are. Last, the A/C needs maintenance. The blower and al the components work fine but the Freon needs to be changed to 134 in order to work properly. Hot air is excellent.

The Best Engineerd And Luxurious Sedan Of Its Generation. — I like the more aggressive stand than the stock Saloon, and the engine is very strong making the vehicle look and handle more like a muscle car. The all around tinted windows and high polished aluminum wheels also contribute to the sporty look. Yet inside the vehicle looks very plush with the upgraded Palomino leader seats, which look great and are extremely comfortable. I fell in love with my 560SEL when I first saw it at my mechanic's garage and bought it even though it needed many repairs and maintenance. Although many of the parts are relatively expensive, I saved a lot of money by doing the mechanical work by myself. Additionally, there are plenty of parts available at junkyards and salvage dealerships. Right now the car performs and handles outstandingly; It is an excellent commuter car in the day and a party cruiser at night. I feel proud to own this car specially when I'm driving on the highway and the very expensive cars of the day pass me by, not for lack of power, on the contrary because I know what the vehicle is capable of doing. I so much enjoy just cruising in style knowing that I didn't have to pay the expensive costs of owning a new car.
