Prosvery solid engineering Consframes on Mazda pickups are prone to rusting in half from salty winter roads

Mazda Anything Is Very Good! — Bought one for $300 with 218,000 miles on it. Because we use salt on winter roads in Northern Midwest, the frame was falling apart between cab and box. After welding on a couple of square tubing supports, it's good as used! Now 30,000 miles later it runs as good as the day I bought it 3 years ago, with only replacing front brake pads. Will probably drive it until the engine dies, which will likely be never. Primary Use: Commuting to work |

ProsExcellent gas mileage for a pickup truck! 26 mpg in the city made this truck worth driving anywhere. Incredibly reliable, simple, and easy to work on. ConsThis is a very light truck. The doors are paper-thin by today's standards, and almost any accident other than a front or rear-end collision would probably kill the occupants.

Awesome Truck, Loads Of Fun, But Very Basic. — I loved this truck. I bought it back in 1999 with 73,000 miles on it, and eventually got rid of it 50,000 miles later. I did almost no work on it other than oil changes and other routine maintenance. The truck was stick shift and easy to learn, and since I owned it, four people learned to drive on it. Rust ultimately killed this truck, as the frame rotted through to the point where it was unsafe to drive. |

1986 Mazda B2000 — This was a good basic utility truck. Cheap to drive and maintain, tough, and cheap to buy. Not good for more than commuter drives, with a harsh ride and sloppy handing, but reasonably fun to drive on short trips around town. Primary Use: Commuting to work |
