Pros

No power (no torque to spin) and heavy cast iron 4 cyl over skinny tires and front wheel drive meant the most excellent traction in winter !!  Nicknamed "Curb Crawler", the only thing it passed was gas stations.  Comfortable, smooth, quiet.

Cons

Cold weather nasty power steering troubles, common to GM then, cold motor ran really fast, rust in doors, drain holes got plugged, headliner fell on head.  Eventually head gasket leak, common, was about its end and no a/c, leaked freon.  Mid 80s were some poor years for American cars, thankfully we've come a long way since then !!

A Friendly Car. — This 85 Cutlass was not high reliability nor few troubles, common to 85 GM. No wonder Japanese cars sales took off when we look back at "Big 3" reliability and quality from around 1973 to 1996 ??? The advent of overdrive automatics was the worst time period of all. I recall brand new Dodge minivans of 1989 not even driving themselves off the new car delivery trucks. What a nightmare. Then the first electronic fuel injected cars stunk and all their sensor troubles. Off on a fond memory tangent, my 76 land yacht ginormous Olds 88 Royale with huge 455 V8 and solid old turbo-400 transmission was one of the best cars I've ever owned. It went for 250,ooo miles, never wore out, family just got tired of driving it, never leaked anything, never used oil, always started setting outside down to 30 below zero, it only rusted out and liked gas at about 15 mpg's max, was it. Even the worst worn out, rough freeze thaw road in all of the northland couldn't be felt underneath it's seemingly 20' long wheelbase. What a sled old "Rosie" was !!

Pros

Leather interior, gold alloy wheels, power windows and seats, the A/C would cause condensation on the outsides of the windows. Best car I ever owned.

Cons

The alloy wheels were hard to remove. I didn't know about painting the hubs with anti-seize.

Cutlass Ciera Brougham — I ordered this car with everything. It was fully optioned. It was also the best car that I have owned so far. It was a present to myself after my wife graduated from college with no loans. I worked five years of shift work and paid the tuition in cash. I ended up giving the car away to a friend in need. He drove it into the ground and told me that it was the best car he ever owned too.
