1978 AMC Gremlin Review Ratings
1978 AMC Gremlin Review
Lots of fun taking it to car shows.
Body parts are very hard to find. No reproduction parts for car. No parts book like you can find for most old cars.
It Is What You See. — It is believe it or not a car to be taken to car shows. It is no longer a daily driver. Mechanically parts can still be found body parts can nearly be impossible. If you find a decent one in good shape buy it and have fun. If you are thinking about buying one to make a show stopper out of think twice. While the intial price will be cheap you will have more problems and will end up costing you more than a Mustang. I have one that was my mothers that is fair but not a show stopper. I have lots of fun with it but I have way less than a $1,000 in it.
Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)
1978 AMC Gremlin Review
As a used car it was the right price!
Not a show-stopper in the looks department.
Okay First Car For Me! — My first car ever! I pushed it to its limits driving over mountains and sliding on ice...had no complaints at the time, but little experience with other cars...except a Ford LTD wagon my parents drove...not a good comparison. Most consider the Gremlin a laughable looking car. I didn't care, it got me where I needed to go. I called it 'Babe' after Paul Bunyan's blue ox! Gas was cheap then so I could afford it despite being a working student...I had a lot of fun in that car and enjoyed the freedom of not having to hitch rides wth fellow students whose educational priorities were different from mine!
Primary Use: Commuting to work
