Still mired in the midst of the gas crisis-induced Mustang II line, the 1976 Ford Mustang offered slight improvements over the less satisfactory '74 and '75 models. 1976 was the year that the Cobra II was introduced, complete with racing stripes and hood scoop reminiscent of the Shelby line from the 60s. It came standard with a 2.3-liter 4 cylinder, but a 5.0-liter package was offered, which could push the horsepower into the low 200s.
Other than the Cobra II, there was little to cheer about the 1976 line of Mustangs. Embargo, go away. Muscle car, come back!
