Salleys 1974 Firebird- Ms. Illusion — I bought my 1974 base firebird on March 6, 2008. I have named her " Ms. Illusion" She is a NUMBERS MATCHING original 6 cylinder, with the 3 speed on the floor. I bought it for only $1300. Drove her home. I started the restoration the following week. Gutting out the interior, changing over the dash, recovering the seats, new headliner, and much more interior detailing- The exterior, had a complete going over, striping off all the original factory paint, adding new lower rear quarter panel, and cleaning up the minor dings, then full paint job, with the old style paint, no clear coat ( my choice) Adding the full rear and front spoilers, and wheel flares, gold Firebird logo decals, and the full sized fire chicken hood decal, BUT the major add-on was the 1975 Trans Am "grille inserts" with parking lights !!! That really gets me a lot of looks at the car shows, My 1974 Firebird is absolutely one-of-a-kind. !! I will be taking her to the 2009 Pontiac 25th Trans Am Nationals in Dayton Ohio- Please stop in and say "Hi" hope to see you all there- Salley-the proud owner of Ms. Illusion... |

ProsFast, Fast, Fast, and makes some beautiful noise. Handles well for a 2 ton 34 year old car. ConsUmmm.... gallons per mile anyone?

Beast Of A Car — Love this car, it's got a 455 bored .030 over making it 462 CID, 3 speed auto, and a heap of goodies to boost. Still not done, been a rolling restoration/custom, still got dash, body, and A/C work to do, but slowly but surely. Will roast the tires at any time. |

ProsThe classic feel of and raw power of a Firebird ConsMaybe gas I guess if your an Eco loving, Prius driving freak!

Muscle Always Beats Tuner! — My car can roast the tires up nice and hit a 13 second quarter mile. Handling is stiff like most muscle cars but the acceleration is awesome. I built the car up from a rusty pile of crap so the build quality is great and the dual ram air hood scoops are a nice touch. Gas is terrible but the fun I have driving it and the stares I get driving by are well worth it. I bought the car for $1000 and put $2500 back into roughly and the best thing about it is that its never done in my eyes and will be a life long project. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |

Fun, Fast N Expensive (to Operate) — Love the feel of mashing the gas, the instant gradification of neck snapping acceleration. It does need paint and cosmetic trim, however it is one fun ride. This car will pass most anything on the road "except a gas station", at least for the first 1/4 mile. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |

ProsFast, classic Consgas mileage, loose handling

74 Firebird — Acceleration is extremely fast, braking and handling are a little loose. it is 30+ years old so it does need some restoration, however, very solid for an old car. Interior and exterior are both very classy, leather inside and aerodynamic outside. Being a muscle car the gas mileage is not the best, but you dont notice when your having fun. Very fun car to drive, VERY fast, stereo with Panasonic DF-600 deck and 2 8" in. Pioneers |

ProsEverything--acceleration, handling, suspension ConsTranny failed after 1 year--no warranty

Outstanding '74 Firebird Esprit — 1974 Navy Blue Pontiac Firebird Esprit bought in 1974 for $6333! Gas was 57 cents/gal. Kept it sparkling--under the hood too. Powder blue leather interior, wide Goodyear tires, deep dish faux wire wheels. Acceleration, handling (like a 'vette) was outstanding, the brakes worked w/out fail! But, tranny failed 1 year after purchase--"supposedly" from large wheels/tire combo--doubt it. Repair not covered under '74 warranty. Traded for a '76 Dodge Van--Boo. |
